Lunch with the Dalai Lama and Pete Souza
Wow. I feel like there is a spring in my sleepy step today. What an amazing night, what a happy and hopeful day.
Our pal the Dalai Lama said–
A new way of thinking has become the necessary condition for responsible living and acting. If we maintain obsolete values and beliefs, a fragmented consciousness and self-centered spirit, we will continue to hold onto outdated goals and behaviors. Such an attitude by a large number of people would block the entire transition to an interdependent yet peaceful and cooperative global society
Here’s to the tomorrow that has become today… a great new place for us to call home.
To peace, compassion and joy within until we’re so full it spills out and all over those around us.
There is nothing I can say that has not already been echoing loudly around our world today, by people who are much more eloquent than I.
I am so thankful.
Here are photos by my sweet friend Amy’s brother– Pete Souza, Photojournalist extraordinaire. He is such an amazingly human– emotional and compassionate photographer. He had a view of Obama last night that we are lucky he so elegantly shares with us. Thanks Pete!

Sunday ’round the fire.
I am feeling mighty thankful today.
Yesterday was the best day. We spent most of it out in the Sanford and Son Memorial Sculpture Garden back-world with a fire going and art flowing and some friends and laughter. A dirigible even flew over head!! I ask you, how much more AWESOME can it get?? Well Jim went out and saw the blimp PLUS a hot air balloon. I guess that is a little bit awesome-er.
The girls got to work on a lawn sign for us–
I worked on my sketchbook exchange stuff. You can check out this month’s here. It was all about the whimsical for Onespot’s book.
The girl’s got their monkey on…
A couple of friends came to play. Erin sat and did some drawings with me. She has some mad-craft ideas! Don’t tell her, but before she came we had brownies and her favorite home-made tapioca made by kids.
We stayed out all day, enjoying the sun and warmth from the fire. Until it was way past time to have made dinner. The sign is beautiful. When it isn’t raining and HAILING we’ll get it up on the front fence.
There was a re-birth of a bad memory. Mari said ” Hey Papa got Rosie a HERMIT CRAB at Michaels!” I shrieked “WHAT!!!!!!!” Luckily it is the sort you can sit and draw with, and erm, sleep with. Shivers.

Obama. Oh, man.
Hey!! Want to get totally nauseous?? A received this email today. I still have a stomach ache.
Make your own president!!!
Got a little time to kill during Saturday Night Live laughter-convulsions??
THIS makes me freak out with happiness. Of course, I plead with you to crochet responsibly.
I can only hope that the Biden/ Palin-Fey dolls will follow quickly.
Enjoy this. Crochet for CHANGE, please.
From the Lion Brand site– be sure to check in for your patterns!
Crochet the Next President
October 16th, 2008
In tomorrow’s newsletter, we’ll be offering free patterns for presidential nominee finger puppets. Once you make the puppets, you can stage your own debate!
We’re also asking you to vote for the candidate of your choice here and we’ll publish the results so you can see where knitters and crocheters stand on the election.
