Updated Mushaboom Gnomegarden

March 28th, 2010

“We’ll collect the moments one by one

I guess that’s how the future’s done.”

That’s just one of my favorite songs.

I named one of my yarns Mushaboom this go round, in it’s honor.

I just finished a big update at the gnomegarden etsy shop.  Here’s the scoop:

Here is an update that was a long time coming :)   ! go to the ETSY! Please  share it with your fiber loving friends and family!

Look for more frequent updates this Spring with lots of spinning fiber, and luscious yarn.

Many of the yarns in this update look fabulous in combination, thus alleviating the ever present question “well, what would I do with one skein??” :)   If you need more ideas though, there is a fab website of low yardage genius at simple patterns to knit with 1-285 yards of yarn and on Ravelry for  “free knit patterns– 285 yards or less”

Please visit me this Spring and let me know how you are!

Wordless, mostly. Knitting.

November 19th, 2009

Been sort of wordless lately.   I thought I’d share some knitting and photos until the words return.

These 2 are handspun skeins that have been hanging around the treasure bowl for a while.  I spun them and loved them so much in strand/yarn-form that I couldn’t even think of making them into “something.”  They were like those experiences I have with painting sometimes… there’s a perfect place or 2 that are so lovely alone that you just need to dwell on it for a bit.

I want to wear them now.  I’m done dwelling :) .

Then here’s a new chapeau made with a fellow etsian ( coolclimate’s) handspun.  It is a nice and slouchy hat which with those magical Chinese lanterns makes me feel sort of like a mystical miner…. they cast a very special sort of light ahead of me. :)

Lots of dyeing going on.  Headed to the Outer Banks next week for the Holiday.  Lots of knitting going with me.

Have a great Thanksgiving.

Be Thankful.

Love your family.

Spin Out Sister.

October 21st, 2009

Yep, this siter has been *sitting and spinning. (*repeat from asterisk. for days.)

I have a basket full of string that I have been listing on etsy all day.

I have yet another basket in process that should be up there in a day or 2 and a handful of batts.  I am binge spinning.  It feels great, plus we have a sick bird ( hedwig) that needs some tests– please go shop!! :)

Thanks to everyone who has sent along great reviews so far.  I spin because I LOVE to, but it is so nice to have my work appreciated and used so beautifully in other peoples work.

Also finished a November Ruffle shawl ( by Kate Jackson)  It is a handspun silk and merino mix.  Exceedingly delicious.  I had to shorten the ruffle as the yarn just ran-the-hell-out. But it is ruffle enough for this spinny girl.

I also have some art to conjure for this round of spark ( see sidebar) more on that in the next week or 2.

more in a day or 2!

Whirligig mischief managed!

October 5th, 2009

That little whirligig shrug was finished by Sunday afternoon!  We had a really adventure-full weekend.  Next post I will tell you all about our trip to AVAM and the new show, until then here is the almost completed shruglette with a wonderful specimen of it’s namesake.

and here it is taking some morning air in the garden today.  All done and ready to fly to a very cute little fae-girl.

The front is just a little raglan sleeve-slope with a bit of a rolled collar.  It is WAY adorable.  I highly recommend it as a quick and fun knit.  Double-plus bonus that it looks so damn cute on!  The handspun was glorious for it– and I have so much left!  Marigold has started a pair of charmed fingerless mitts with it– looking really sweet already!

Tomorrow I want to talk about ART, so here is my favorite photo of the girls from yesterday–

Those my dears, are Super “Magnify Your Faith Binoculars!”  Extreme faith for extreme times the box says… also it says “WARNING:  Do not look directly at sun through binoculars.”  You wouldn’t think you’d have to remind your children of basic truths like that, but you DO! REALLY! They looked right up there!  Plus tried to WALK with them on.  DANGER BABES, they are.

I aquired a pair myself, which I am counting on to give me super powers for that tiny knitting and miniscule art.

“happiness is a form of courage”– Jackson, Holbrook

I read that on a wall yesterday.  Take it to the bank.  Or at least stuff it in your mattress for safe-keeping.

sweet dreams.

rusty hinges and whirligigs

October 3rd, 2009

I had a breakfast knitting meeting with the ortho man the other day.

I brought my needles, he brought his.  I am getting these injections in my knees… the are derived from chicken combs, which is just disturbing first of all.  Then they HURT. LIKE. the HELL, second of all. I just finished my third week of one in each knee.  Now I am to wait another 4-6 weeks and hopefully they will bring me some relief from the pain that is my knees.  If anyone has a positive tale to tell me about Synvisc, I’d be happy to hear about it!  Let me have them!!  I am ever hopeful.

What you see above is about halfway of the most adorable little Whirligig Shrug from the Weekend Interweave Knits Magazine.

It is really fast and super adorable.  I am making it out of a merino/tencel mix handspun that looks like this–

I am really liking the way it is coming out… I expect to finish it this weekend.  I want to also make the Cottage Lace Cardigan in that issue as well– my plans are to try the Jacob fleece that is waiting to be spun and whip up a nice chunky single with it.  Here’s the cardi–  I think it will look smashing in jacob!

The big news today is an upcoming guinea pig wedding!!  That’s right– Panson is getting hitched. Tying the knot. Embracing the ole ball and chain.  Stay tuned to meet the gorgeous bride– Ms. Punkin’Pie and the coverage of their wedding.

ps– The girls are making the gowns– should be a day to remember!
