Transcontinental gnomes

The gnome friends have arrived at their new homes– In New Zealand and the Netherlands.  Here they are– Rowan the eccentric ages-old mister gnome.

And the sassy gal-gnome who seems to have a bit of other magical creature mixed in from her features and size.

They were born on vacation by needle felt, and were lots of fun to make!!!  My sister and I spent some really nice time at the lake poking the wool into gnome-like form.  The gnome swap was so much fun;  I can’t wait to do one again!  I hope that Matryoshka won’t mind me pointing you to her most amazing creations on Flickr.  She was also in the swap, but also take note that an Etsy shop( Felt Forest) is in the works and she makes some WAY magical things.  Check them out, leave her comments– and let her know if you’d like to see her blogging her wonderment-O-life.  I keep telling her it’s a good idea.  She needs some encouragement!

Here is a lovely yarn I was given by my friend Cat.  It was such a nice surprise.  It was one that I didn’t get at Sheep & Wool due to the hole in my pocket :) .  It is so gorgeous.  Came from Ellens Half Pint Farm. Also I got a set of those fancy- pants multicolor double pointed needles to knit it with.  Right awai I cast on the Spring Forward socks Thanks Cat– I love it all!!  I will love these socks BIG!

I have been spinning, spinning, spinning. Still keeping with the 10 minutes a day thing.  I keep my weel and fiber set up, and everytime I get a phone call– or even just have 5 minutes free– I sit and do some.  You would be surprised how fast those little bits add up!  Tomorrow I am going to soak and set all of the yarn that I have spun lately and start thinking about what they might want to be.  Another good FALL activity.  I am still trying to focus on those positives!

Lastly for today, here was our very lovely sunset over the garden last night.

I am pretty excited– the seeds I planted are all popping up– I hope we’ll have a bounty of fresh veggies before winter.  Have a great night!

I am busy making loads of markers. I will be live–in person with the delicious MAMA*E and a whole gaggle of other fine fiber artists at the Homespun Yarn Fest in Takoma Park in a couple of weeks — March 30. You can get your news about it here. Sounds like a really fun day and great way to see what beautiful work local fiber folk have to offer! You will also find she and I at the glorious MARYLAND SHEEP AND WOOL FESTIVAL at the Cloverhill Yarns booth ( Main bldg. D2 & 3).

What else, you ask?? My ticker got adjusted — you know daylight savings and all that. I have to thank my dear Pegaloo for this loveliness, which I never grow tired of seeing or SMELLING. Wow is it yummy. And I am feeling GREAT. Thanks to all of you who cared for and about me.

(…and Peg says PLANT THOSE PEAS!! It was St. Paddy’s day after all. I am trying Peg. :) )

These are some Happy-Spring hand/wrist warmers I whipped up. I think I like them… though I sometimes feel like I am wearing hand braces. And that’s a little weird for me.

They look like nice dye-splashed hands, n’est pas? (“A touch of DESTINY Will Turner” — the mysterious Tia Dalma says in PIRATES.) Upcoming blog post note to self– “CRaZy serendipitous life change: smitten with the colored girl.”

A few more photos and then I am off to bed. If a picture is worth a thousand words, then I surely owe this many for my time away from blogworld!

Meet Bizza-Bizza-Wah-Wah. That has been the name of Rosemary’s imaginary friend since way back, and this is Marigold’s needle felted tribute to her.

bizza-bizza-wah-wah.jpg Eeesh. What DO they play?

I made a new mermaid for the small poppet-girl today.

I think Marigold added a belly button gem since these pics– it was just missing that certain something. :) Good night, sleep tight. NO biting.

P.S. Aunt Matryoshka – The little says ” Mama, you are a good needlefelter, but Aunt is AWESOME! Look at the nose on that gnomie– it’s peeeeerrrrrrrfect!” :)

Baaaaaaahhhhhhck to Black, light sabers and voodoo dolls.

It has been a strangely wonderful week here in the life-garden. Full of polarities. Contemplative and chaotic. Orderly and disorderly. Exciting new things and nostalgic old ones. Changes. Lots of new ideas for life, plans, projects. Up, down and around on the dragon coaster.

Had a fun day of big adventures with sweet mama e and her boy– my fairie-god-son. It was a STAR WARS-a-palooza out in the back yard. There were light sabers flying — all sorts of Chewy mayhem. Rosemary wore her Queen Amadala dress and Marigold was working a Harry Potter robe, which was BLACK so she ended up being a SITH or some evil character just by default :) . She was trying to carve a light saber out of a big stick with a butter knife. The vision of youth.
Fun
times and nice people.

Good, really good. AND it is March 1 which means SPRING and SOOOOOOOOON! This time of year always gets me a little crazed with possibilities. The SUN is coming back. I start to think about the garden and summer vacation and warmth. Art ideas, house projects. Grackles and hummingbirds.

Had a needle felting class today that was really fun. Had a harpist in class; Kim :) . You just don’t come across many of the harpies. Again, really nice people.

I love seeing people be overtaken by the zen of needle felting , and I always have so much fun. Here are todays little births–
