Lunch with the Dalai Lama and Pete Souza
Wow. I feel like there is a spring in my sleepy step today. What an amazing night, what a happy and hopeful day.
Our pal the Dalai Lama said–
A new way of thinking has become the necessary condition for responsible living and acting. If we maintain obsolete values and beliefs, a fragmented consciousness and self-centered spirit, we will continue to hold onto outdated goals and behaviors. Such an attitude by a large number of people would block the entire transition to an interdependent yet peaceful and cooperative global society
Here’s to the tomorrow that has become today… a great new place for us to call home.
To peace, compassion and joy within until we’re so full it spills out and all over those around us.
There is nothing I can say that has not already been echoing loudly around our world today, by people who are much more eloquent than I.
I am so thankful.
Here are photos by my sweet friend Amy’s brother– Pete Souza, Photojournalist extraordinaire. He is such an amazingly human– emotional and compassionate photographer. He had a view of Obama last night that we are lucky he so elegantly shares with us. Thanks Pete!

SPARK– Art from Writing::Writing from Art
Over the past month or so I have had the pleasure of taking part in a really interesting art & writing project created by my darling friend Amy Souza.
About the project:
In September 2008, twelve writers and thirteen visual artists embarked upon this Art & Writing Project to find inspiration from one another. To begin, writers sent artists a story or poem, and artists sent writers a painting or photograph. Working over two days only, each person used their partner’s piece as a jumping off point for new work of their own. The results are displayed on this site.
There were 24 contributors from various locales. As of now there is no actual, real-life exhibition planned, all work will be virtually exhibited.
Here were my submissions. If you check out the site, you can read the inspiration and response associated with them. Spend some time exploring the art & writing in the project– you’ll be inspired too! You will find work by Jimmy there as well.
If you are an artist or writer and would like to participate next round– drop Amy a line. I am sure she’d love to hear from you.
