Something you might not know about the gnomegarden-girls is that we share a great appreciation for historic cemeteries. Here are about a billion photos from a visit last week. Believe it or not there are more on my Flickr if you enjoy this sort of thing.
I love the variety of size and detailing on the old stones. They are so beautiful. The writing is lovely and the weathering amazing. The kids really enjoy reading them and trying to find the oldest/ most interesting. We talk a lot about family and circle of life things. Marigold wishes each stone would give you a story of the person and how they lived and died. I like that about her. Rosie likes to “decorate” the graves with leaves and plants– “make them look pretty.” I like this about her. Forget Disney– It’s fun for the whole family!
Believe it or not, though I am a life-long Baltimorean, I can’t remember ever visiting Edgar Allen Poe’s House or grave. That’s our next scheduled cemetery appreciation day stop! Stay tuned.

I’m with you. I have about 60 photos of the awesome little cemetery we visited in North Carolina in May. There is a British Soldier buried standing up and facing toward England! You can’t make this stuff up. They are indeed fertile grounds for great family discussions about all sorts of good topics.
I loved the oil drum!!! Have you been to the library? And Reisterstown United Methodist?? They are great too. xoxo Bella
